More than any other concerts, after they happened, I was asked my appearances at the Cavern Club were recorded.
As a diehard Beatles fan and fan of the British rock and roll revolution of the 1960s in general, playing the Cavern Club was a surreal experience. Between 1961 and 1963, the Beatles performed at the historic club 292 times. When the opportunity arrived to appear at the 2023 International Pop Overthrow Festival at the Cavern Club, I had to say yes. I had not performed outside of the U.S. in seven years and I wanted to do something special. I assembled two unique sets for the Festival with no songs being repeated at either show. The second concert on June 1, 2023 however is the only one where I have a soundboard recording. That is what you have here. It was recorded in mono and is a “warts and all” performance. It is raw and what you hear is what you get. What I hear is the memory of a great night and the thrill of playing a historic stage in front of a wonderful audience.
Thank you David Bash (And Rina) for the opportunity. Thank you Kyle Downes and Adam Boose for prepping this concert for release. Thank you to my parents for making the journey to Liverpool with me. – XO DM
